Tuchel Stands by England Squad Choices

Declan Rice expressed that England still requires the contributions of some key players, despite lauding the team he currently plays with as “unreal.”
Under coach Thomas Tuchel, England followed a significant victory in World Cup qualifiers against Serbia with a 3-0 win in a friendly against Wales this past month. Goals from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka within the first twenty minutes at Wembley demonstrated the team’s growing strength and cohesion.
Tuchel’s squad has seen success recently, despite missing prominent figures like Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and Cole Palmer. Other players have capitalized on their opportunities during this time.
Rice, who captained the team in Harry Kane’s absence recently, stated, “Every match for England is a chance to prove yourself. We definitely feel the absence of Jude, Phil, and Cole, but it’s vital that we integrate everyone effectively as we look towards the World Cup.”
He added, “Our squad is exceptional, and their contributions in the national jersey speak volumes. We eagerly anticipate their return in the next camp.”
Rice noted that with his strong performance at club level with Arsenal—currently seated at the top of the Premier League—it has helped him maintain confidence and momentum heading into the World Cup next summer. He shared, “Having clarity from my managers about my role has made a huge difference. When you’re confident, you feel unstoppable.”
As the season progresses, Rice aims to build on his growing form for both club and country.
