Former NFL offensive lineman Richie Incognito played an impressive 15 years in the league for four different teams and was one of the league’s best guards for the majority of that time before retiring two years ago.

The former lineman recently opened up about what the last season of his career was like.

Incognito recently appeared on Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby’s podcast, The Rush, and Maxx asked if it was tough to accept the fact that his career was likely coming to an end after that last season, and Incognito said, “Going into the season I had dealt with a pulled hamstring in my training…so the seed was planted in the preseason…that if I have anything pop up physically, if I end the year and I need surgery…I was kind of at peace with it.”

Incognito said that that was the first time those thoughts had ever crossed his mind of him likely being one injury away from deciding to hang it up.

In his final season, Incognito missed the first two games of the year with a calf strain and was then placed on injured reserve, which followed up the previous season when he appeared in only two games due to an Achilles injury followed by season-ending foot surgery.

Once the lower body injuries start piling up like that for an offensive lineman, the end is near, and it’s clear that Incognito had an idea it was coming to an end heading into that final season with the Raiders.
