Rickie Fowler debuts new equipment at Sanderson Farms Championship

Rickie Fowler arrives at Sanderson Farms with new equipment in the bag

Rickie Fowler is back on the PGA Tour this week at the Sanderson Farms Championship after his last appearance at the 2024 British Open in Jackson, Mississippi. As one of the top names in the field, Fowler met with the media on Tuesday.

During the press conference, Fowler talked about the course and his upcoming schedule for the rest of the 2024 PGA Tour season. He also addressed some new equipment in his bag that caught people’s attention.

Regarding his new black version of the Cobra King Tour irons, Fowler said, “Yeah, got a few things. From irons, they’re just a black version of the same Cobra King Tours that I was playing, just a different color. I thought they looked a little bit better. Put those straight in.”

The King Tour irons feature a compact, forged design with a thermoplastic insert that enhances feel and sound. Fowler had success with the chrome version in 2023, nearly winning the U.S. Open and eventually claiming victory at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Fowler also mentioned testing out a new L.A.B. putter this week, saying, “I had a little extra time to be able to do some more testing with a L.A.B. putter and saw a lot of good things from it. Like I said, liked what I’ve seen at home, so giving that a test run this week. Hopefully, we continue to see good things.”

The putter Fowler is using is the L.A.B. DF3, known for its Lie Angle Balance technology that helps keep the putter face square to the intended arc. It’s a promising addition to his bag for this tournament.

Fowler also revealed his decision to add a mini driver from TaylorMade to replace his 3-wood. He explained, “Outside of that, added a mini driver from TaylorMade, so basically a replacement for 3-wood. Feel like it’s something very beneficial off the tee, especially at a golf course like this, so I’ve seen, again, a lot of good benefits from it.”

Elite players like Fowler are increasingly opting for mini drivers over traditional 3-woods for improved performance off the tee. The mini driver trend has been gaining popularity among professional golfers, with players like Tommy Fleetwood, Cameron Young, and Max Homa also incorporating it into their bags.
