Maxwell Moldovan, a recent Ohio State graduate, had a stress-free opening round at the Memorial Tournament on Thursday. As a non-competing marker, his score did not count, allowing him to play without pressure or worry about keeping score.
Playing alongside Davis Thompson, Moldovan estimated he shot 4 or 5 over par, although he was asked to pick up on the third hole after finding water off the tee. Despite not officially counting, Moldovan enjoyed the experience without nerves.

Moldovan recently turned professional after a successful college career at Ohio State, where he set a school record for the lowest scoring average. He participated in the U.S. Open qualifier and received the opportunity to be a marker at the Memorial Tournament.
Despite not playing competitively, Moldovan embraced his role as a marker and enjoyed the experience of being part of such a prestigious event. He will continue to support his friend Thompson in the tournament and await news on potentially playing in the U.S. Open.
While the experience of playing without competition felt strange, Moldovan made the most of it and focused on fulfilling his responsibilities as a marker for Thompson. Although not officially in the event, he approached the day with a sense of professionalism.
Looking ahead, Moldovan plans to attend the Memorial as a spectator and then potentially compete in the U.S. Open if certain circumstances align. As the second alternate at the U.S. Open qualifier, he is eager for the opportunity to compete at a professional level.
With uncertainty surrounding his potential entry into the U.S. Open, Moldovan remains hopeful and grateful for the experiences he has encountered thus far in his young professional career.
