Robert Saleh Contemplating Dismissing Nathaniel Hackett

Robert Saleh Was Considering Firing Nathaniel Hackett

The New York Jets headed into the 2024 NFL regular season with high hopes of being able to right the ship and live up to expectations of being a legitimate Super Bowl title contender in the AFC, with superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers healthy and ready to play in Week 1.

Unfortunately for the Jets, the team has struggled to play consistently well on both sides of the football this season, leading to three losses in the first five games of the 2024 campaign.

After losing to the Minnesota Vikings over the weekend in London, England, the Jets decided it was time to shake things up, resulting in the storied franchise firing head coach Robert Saleh.

Although there’s been a lot of speculation about Saleh’s job status, and the firing isn’t a total surprise, it is an interesting development only five games into the regular season, pointing to the dysfunction in New York.

Apparently, Saleh was thinking about moving on from offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who is close friends with Rodgers, before he was fired on Tuesday, according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports.

It may have been Saleh flirting with the idea of parting ways with Hackett that ultimately got him fired because that move definitely wouldn’t have sat well with Rodgers.

It’ll be interesting to see how the team moves forward regarding the head coach position and if they choose to hire a new head coach immediately or make someone like Hackett the interim head coach for the rest of the season.
