The event, part of the “On Thanks for Playing” initiative, aimed to promote the sport at a community level, reinforcing Federer’s role not just as a tennis icon but also as a mentor for young athletes.
As a co-owner of the Swiss sports and footwear brand On, Federer visited the Shanghai Xuhui District First Youth Amateur Sports School, where he joined officials from the local Sports Bureau to reveal the upgraded facilities. This project is designed to foster a conducive training atmosphere for aspiring tennis players in the region.
Highlighting the day’s significance, Federer marked the occasion by signing the court and performing a ceremonial first serve, which was a gratifying moment for both the attendees and the young players eager to learn from the legend himself. The renovation of the courts was spearheaded by Liu Yunzhi, a notable figure in Chinese tennis.
