He sometimes gets lost in the mix in a stacked 2024 NFL Draft offensive tackle class, but Washington OT Roger Rosengarten is very much worth your attention as a potential early-round pick. Rosengarten is worth the capital, and he could pay it back tenfold.

The Washington Huskies quietly boast one of the only early-round tackle duos in the 2024 NFL Draft. Troy Fautanu has been projected to guard by some, but he’s viewed as a potential first-round talent at either spot.

And then there’s Rosengarten — the less heralded of the two — who’s steadily climbed into early-round range since the start of the 2023 season.

Rosengarten began his career at Washington as a four-star recruit and Top 100 national talent from Littleton, Colorado. He redshirted in 2020 and only played four games in 2021. But in 2022, he entered the starting lineup at right tackle, and he never ceded the job.

Rosengarten started all 13 games in 2022, and he returned as an impact player on Washington’s Joe Moore Award-winning line in 2023. Although an up-and-down National Championship performance against Michigan’s pass rush soured Rosengarten’s season, he still did more than enough to earn the intrigue of NFL scouts.

That intrigue helped bring about an invite to the Reese’s Senior Bowl, where Rosengarten left as one of the top performers on the offensive line. Now, the soon-to-be 22-year-old rookie is on the upswing, and he has the profile to keep rising.

Current Draft Projection and Summary

Roger Rosengarten grades out as a top-75 prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft and one of the best natural right tackles behind the top group of Taliese Fuaga, JC Latham, and Tyler Guyton. He’s worthy of early-to-mid Day 2 consideration and could be a surprise Round 1 pick after testing.

In a class filled with rare athletes at OT, Rosengarten is near the top of the list. He’s an effortlessly explosive mover with hyperactive short-area burst and energy, bristling foot speed, and hyper-elite flexibility and recovery capacity.

Past his athletic tools, there’s still plenty to like with Rosengarten, too. The Washington OT is a synergetic pass protector who plays with great knee bend, pad level and controlled lean. And while his base can be a bit uncontrolled, his flashes of independent hand usage and latch technique are superb.

As a run blocker, Rosengarten is just as exciting. His uncommon brand of mobility and flexibility yields all-encompassing schematic and usage versatility. He can channel imposing power with his burst and length, and he eagerly finishes defenders into the turf when given the chance.

For Rosengarten, the biggest concern in his NFL projection is his play strength. He’s not a liability on that front, but he still has a ways to go before his strength is NFL-caliber. Particularly against power in pass protection, he struggles to drop the anchor or stop rushers from working across-face, and he can be easily worked off-balance.

Improving his short-area control and footwork efficiency can help counteract fluctuations with balance, but Rosengarten will need to get stronger and add mass to his 311-pound frame if he wants to survive against power consistently at the professional level.
