Rouen | Stephens Wins WTA 250 Title in France

Rouen | Stephens takes WTA 250 honours in France

At the inaugural Open Capfinances Rouen Métropole, Sloane Stephens emerged victorious as she defeated Magda Linette in the WTA 250 indoor clay-court tournament final in France. Stephens secured a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 win to claim her first title since 2022 and her first on clay. Reflecting on her victory, Stephens expressed satisfaction in overcoming a tough match against a formidable opponent.

Linette, a former Australian Open semi-finalist from Poland, showed resilience by forcing a decider after a gripping second set. However, Stephens regained control in the third set, ultimately sealing the win after a hard-fought battle.

Stephens’ performance throughout the tournament was impressive, maintaining a high first-serve percentage and converting crucial break points. Her victory resulted in a significant rise in the rankings, setting her up for future competitions.

In the doubles final, Timea Babos and Irina Khromacheva clinched the title with a solid win over the all-British pairing of Naiktha Bains and Maia Lumsden. Babos and Khromacheva’s victory marked a milestone for Babos’s career, while Khromacheva secured her third WTA doubles title alongside her partner.
