Ruben Curley picks up Scholar of the Year award - Man United News And Transfer News

Ruben Curley Named Manchester United’s Premier League Scholar of the Year

Ruben Curley has been honored with the title of Manchester United’s Premier League Scholar of the Year at the 2023/24 Premier League academy awards.

The scholar of the year award recognizes an academy player from the Under-18 age group who has excelled in all aspects of the scholarship program and has served as an exemplary role model to his peers.

Curley’s achievements this season, both on and off the pitch, including his dedication to education, professionalism as a footballer, and personal growth, led to him receiving this prestigious award.

Curley was presented with the award in the presence of his family and United’s U18s coach, Adam Lawrence.

On the field, Curley played a crucial role in United’s treble-winning U18s team while also making the transition to U21s football.

He made 29 appearances in all competitions across the U18s and U21s, showcasing his talent by playing the full 90 minutes in the U18s national Premier League final against Chelsea.

Curley, who is 18 years old, made an impact against Chelsea this season, delivering a standout performance off the bench in his U21s debut by providing two assists against Chelsea U21s.

With three goals and three assists in the past season, Curley has proven to be a versatile midfielder who contributes both defensively and offensively, even being deployed as a number 10 at times.

Despite facing injury challenges in the past, Curley has quietly developed in the United academy, showcasing his potential through his performances on the field.

A physically strong midfielder, Curley excels in his dribbling and dynamic runs through the lines to create space and challenge opposition midfields.

Previous recipients of this award include center backs Sonny Aljofree and Rhys Bennett.

Looking ahead to the next season, Curley aims to solidify his position in the U21s and the U19s UEFA Youth League campaign before considering a potential loan move later in the season.
