Rune Ends Three-Game Losing Streak with Victory at Japan Open

2024 Hangzhou Open ATP Prize Money & Points Overview

Holger Rune had a rough start to his 2024 Asian Swing, but he improved in his second match, defeating Alejandro Tabilo in three sets at the Japan Open in Tokyo.

Rune’s first match in this year’s Asian Swing was against experienced veteran Yasutaka Uchiyama from Japan in Hangzhou, where he suffered a two-set defeat.

Rune continued his poor form, losing his third consecutive match despite moments of good play.

However, Rune turned things around at the ATP 500 event in Tokyo by delivering a solid performance to overcome Tabilo. His strong start and consistent serving made a significant difference.

Tabilo struggled to match Rune’s level at the beginning of the match, showing inconsistencies that worked in Rune’s favor.

Rune’s late arrival from Europe, where he competed in the Laver Cup, may have affected Tabilo’s performance in Tokyo.

In the second set, Tabilo showed signs of improvement, but Rune’s aggressive play and solid serving kept the pressure on.

Despite a more competitive second set, Tabilo couldn’t capitalize on his chances to break Rune’s serve.

The match remained close, with Rune eventually edging out Tabilo in the third set to secure victory and advance to the next round of the 2024 Japan Open in Tokyo.
