Rune Lashes Out at ATP Tour After Loss to Sinner

Rune Lashes Out at ATP Tour After Loss to Sinner

By Chris Oddo | @TheFanChild | Saturday April 12, 2024

After dropping a 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-3 loss to Jannik Sinner in the Monte-Carlo quarterfinals, Holger Rune has taken to social media to complain to the ATP Tour.

Tennis Express

The Dane, who made an innocent gesture to hush the crowd and was given a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct at 5-5 in the second set (in addition to a time violation warning, which prompted the incident), says he felt he has been given poor treatment by the tour.

Editor’s Note: Rune may be carrying some baggage with regard to Dumusois, who mistakenly called him “Casper” during a match at Basel last year.

Rune would argue his case on court with umpire Damien Dumusois and tournament supervisor Cedric Mourier to no avail, but he did go on to save a pair match points and force a decider before losing in three sets.

See video of the incident below:

The Dane took offense to a social media post of the point before the warning came, and lashed out at the tour about what he perceived to be favoritism.

“Meaning what @atptour …..?” Rune wrote in reply to the ATP’s post. “Not that you gave me the best conditions in the first place having to play 2 matches the day before ending late, leaving almost no recovery time. Chair Umpire making crucial mistakes and giving wrong warning that disturbed the game. May the force be with you, Jesus Christ!”
