Rune Playfully Teases Lack of Private Chef Due to Ranking Decline

Holger Rune recently discussed his Top 10 exit, attributing it to his lack of a private chef to cook his meals.

Rune made history last summer by becoming the highest-ranked Danish male player after reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinal for the first time, and climbing to World No. 4.

His success at Wimbledon followed a strong performance on the clay courts, where he reached three finals, won one Masters 1000 title (Munich Open), and achieved impressive results.

However, Rune’s form in the latter part of 2023 was not as consistent as in the first half of the year, leading to a noticeable drop in rankings. He sought help from Boris Becker to turn his season around.

During a recent interview at the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic in London, Rune humorously revealed that he did not have a private chef and relied on Uber Eats for his meals.

This culinary limitation was jokingly linked to his decline in rankings from No. 4 to No. 15, with Rune acknowledging the impact of not having a personal chef on his professional performance.

“Unfortunately no. But now I am 15 so that’s why. No, you guys heard about Uber Eats, right? I think we are going to cook Saturday we had some talk about the barbeques.”

In response to inquiries about his cooking skills, Rune admitted to cooking only once before, preparing beef with mashed potatoes and peppers, and jokingly mentioned plans for a barbecue.

“I cooked, I think, only one time in my life. That was three weeks ago. So. Beef with mashed potatoes and lot of peppers.”

With the upcoming Wimbledon tournament, Rune faces the task of defending his quarterfinal points to maintain his position in the Top 15. His first match will be against Soonwoo Kwon from South Korea.
