Rune’s Ex-Coach Predicts Sinner To Dethrone Alcaraz As Top Youngster In 2024

Rune’s Ex-Coach Predicts Sinner To Dethrone Alcaraz As Top Youngster In 2024

Former coach of Holger Rune, Patrick Mouratoglou, thinks that Jannik Sinner will overtake Carlos Alcaraz in 2024.

Patrick Mouratoglou had some big takes in years past, yet this one might be the boldest of all. The ATP Finals ended on a sour note for Alcaraz, but he played really well and reminded us all that he can still be great.

Sinner obviously had the better event and better conclusion to the year, but it’s currently very difficult to tell which of the two youngsters is a better player, as they both had their good moments, but also bad moments when they didn’t play so well.

Both of them are very young players, and both of them are improving with every event they play. One is better at this, the other at something else, but it’s never that black and white in tennis. Even so, Mouratoglou is of the opinion that Sinner will come out on top next year.

I think Jannik, with what he’s done at the end of 2023, will be 100% ready to perform at the highest level,” he said in a video on his Instagram page. With the confidence of the last months, I see him playing better and stronger than Carlos next year.

To play along, I’ll actually say that, in ways, it could happen. Sinner has given Alcaraz plenty of trouble when they played against each other, as he has a pretty bulldozing game that can bully even the best in the world.

Another tidbit that could settle it is health. Neither player has proven completely immune to injuries, but Alcaraz has seemingly dealt with more recently. Whatever happens will happen, but we should all enjoy the battle unfolding on the courts.

It’s shaping up to be the next big rivalry in the sport and not all agree with Mouratoglou.
