Russell Wilson Addresses Concerns Over Calf Injury

Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback Russell Wilson is in danger of missing their Week 1 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

Wilson spoke about his calf injury after he was limited in practice.

“Just felt a little tight. Just wanted to be smart about it. … I’m hoping I get to be in (the game) on Sunday. … I’m doing everything I can,” Wilson said, via Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Wilson is on a one-year contract after being released by the Denver Broncos after two down seasons there.

If the former Super Bowl champion can’t go against the Falcons, the Steelers have Justin Fields to play QB.

They traded for the former first-round pick of the Chicago Bears earlier this offseason, in addition to signing Wilson, with the hopes of improving the play from the position.

With Fields having a strong training camp, Steelers fans might feel comfortable knowing they have a quality backup option.

The next couple of days will tell if the Steelers decide to roll out Wilson for the opener or not.

Remember, the nine-time Pro Bowl selection is playing with a chip on his shoulder after the past few seasons went poorly in Denver.

If and when healthy, fans could see a hungry and motivated Wilson like the one who had a magical decade with the Seattle Seahawks.

With Pittsburgh hoping to have yet another winning campaign under head coach Mike Tomlin, and with the additions of Wilson and Fields, this season could be a big one in the Steel City.
