The Pittsburgh Steelers got off to a fast start to the 2024 NFL regular season, with Mike Tomlin’s squad winning the first three games of the year while creating a lot of buzz for potentially being the best defense in the league, with superstar TJ Watt leading the way.
Heading into the season, the consensus seemed to be that veteran newcomer Russell Wilson would be the starting quarterback in Week 1, but he was dealing with a calf issue, and the team didn’t want to risk making it worse.
As a result of being cautious with the one-time Super Bowl champion, the Steelers chose to give former Chicago Bears star Justin Fields the nod for the first five weeks of the season, which went well until the past two weeks with the team suffering consecutive losses to the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys.
In Week 6, the Steelers will go on the road to take on the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium, with no word yet on whether Wilson will start over Fields now that the veteran is healthy.
On Thursday, Wilson was asked if he’d be ready to play against the Raiders, and it appears he’s prepared to go if he’s given the opportunity via Mike DeFabo of The Athletic.
“I have no doubt in my mind when I step between the white lines, I’ll be ready to go,” Wilson said.

With the Steelers suffering consecutive losses, this might be the ideal time for Tomlin to start Wilson over Fields to potentially boost the offense against a struggling Raiders squad that’s coming off a blowout loss to the Denver Broncos.
It’ll be interesting to see what move Tomlin makes this week and whether Wilson can prove his worth after a disappointing stint with the Broncos.
