Ruud seeks redemption with victory over Tsitsipas in Barcelona Open Final, avenging previous final loss

Casper Ruud avenged his recent loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Monte-Carlo Masters final by defeating him in the 2024 Barcelona Open final. This rivalry has produced some intriguing chapters in the past few weeks, especially considering both players’ affinity for clay courts.

Last week, Tsitsipas had a convincing victory over Ruud in Monte Carlo, a surface where the Greek has excelled. However, this week in Barcelona, both players battled on a court they both enjoy, with Tsitsipas historically performing better on it.

Despite being the favorite, Tsitsipas was outplayed by the Norwegian in straight sets. Ruud staged a comeback after an early break by Tsitsipas in the first set, ultimately winning it 7-5. In the second set, Ruud maintained his focus and control over the match, securing a solid victory.

With a final score of 7-5, 6-3 in favor of Ruud, he claimed his first ATP 500 trophy after facing defeat in previous finals this year. This win in the Barcelona Open marks a highlight in Ruud’s successful season.
