Rybakina Closes in on Swiatek with Victory in Stuttgart

Elena Rybakina emerged victorious at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, claiming her third title of the season and dethroning Iga Swiatek in an epic semifinal match. Rybakina went on to defeat Marta Kostyuk in the final, earning not only a trophy but also a new Porsche car. This victory boosted her points in the WTA Race, narrowing the gap between her and current leader Swiatek as they head to Madrid for the first WTA 1000 event on clay.

Aryna Sabalenka, who had reached three consecutive finals in Stuttgart, was knocked out in the quarterfinals this year by Marketa Vondrousova. Despite this setback, Sabalenka remains in third place behind Swiatek and Rybakina. Danielle Collins, currently in fourth place, took a break after winning titles in Miami and Charleston. She holds the title of the best-performing American woman in 2024, surpassing Coco Gauff who is in fifth place.

Marta Kostyuk jumped into the Top 10 (7th) due to her impressive performance in Stuttgart, where she defeated three Top 10 opponents to reach the final. The current WTA Race standings show players like Jasmine Paolini, Jelena Ostapenko, and Anna Kaliskaya in the Top 10. Looking ahead, Daria Kasatkina (11th) and Maria Sakkari (12th) are expected to make strides during the upcoming clay swing.
