Sabalenka Acknowledges She Does Not Follow Competitors’ Matches

Sabalenka Admits She Doesn't Watch Rivals' Matches

Aryna Sabalenka discussed women’s tennis ahead of the 2024 Madrid Open and revealed her preference for men’s tennis when it comes to watching matches.

Many female tennis players have admitted that they enjoy watching men’s tennis more than women’s tennis in their leisure time, despite the common assumption that tennis players watch a lot of matches.

For players like Sabalenka, whose lives revolve around tennis, taking a break from the sport is necessary. Sabalenka, who is the defending champion at the Madrid Open, shared her thoughts on women’s tennis before the tournament.

Reflecting on her recent performance, Sabalenka acknowledged that her form hasn’t been great in the past few weeks.

“I feel like I haven’t been performing at the level of the ‘Big Three’ recently, it’s more like a ‘Big Two’ at the moment (laughs). Nevertheless, I am proud to be part of this group. I aim to maintain my level and hope for continued success.”

Furthermore, Sabalenka admitted that she doesn’t watch the matches of her rivals Iga Swiatek or Elena Rybakina. She expressed a preference for men’s tennis over women’s tennis due to finding it more captivating.

“I don’t follow their matches: I have faced them enough times to know my coach will analyze and prepare me with footage if we meet again.”

“I’m not a frequent viewer of tennis; I find men’s matches more logical and interesting to watch than women’s matches.”

Ultimately, everyone has their preferences, and while some might expect Sabalenka to closely monitor her competitors, she chooses not to. She also doesn’t watch a lot of tennis matches in general.
