Sabalenka’s Australian Open Win Not As Surprising As Sinner’s Says Andreescu

Bianca Andreescu loves tennis and watching other players play, and she gave her thoughts about the recent Australian Open.

Many players watch other matches during events. Daniil Medvedev famously admitted to watching matches in his hotel room when he’s not playing, and he’s not the only one. Carlos Alcaraz is also a player who watches other matches during events, but there are also players who don’t bother watching other matches.

It really depends on what type of person the player is and how much they love tennis. For Bianca Andreescu, it’s a simple answer. She loves tennis and watches it when she can.

She was even a huge fan of Break Point, while plenty of others panned it. In a recent interview with TSN during the 2024 NHL All-Star Game, Andreescu admitted to watching the 2024 Australian Open and gave her thoughts.

According to the Canadian, Aryna Sabalenka’s win wasn’t a huge surprise, certainly not compared to Jannik Sinner’s victory at the event.

“It’s not fun watching other players play and you can’t play that specific tournament, but it was nice watching the Australian Open. It was nice to get back into the groove of things.”

“A lot of the matches were crazy. I wasn’t surprised by Sabalenka, but Sinner … he’s amazing but I didn’t think it would come so soon. He’s had amazing results, [and] I’m definitely happy for him.”

As for Andreescu, she’s planning her comeback in the coming weeks. For now, it’s set at the Indian Wells Open, but she’s yet to see if she ends up being ready for that date because, in this same interview, Andreescu admitted that she’s not 100% yet.

Hopefully, she won’t have to watch the next Grand Slam on TV but will actually be there on the red clay of Paris competing with her fellow players.
