The New Orleans Saints had an average 2023.
After adding multi-time Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr, the team would go on to finish 9-8 and miss the playoffs.
They have not made the postseason since Drew Brees retired in 2020.
However, that has not changed GM Mickey Loomis’ mind about his starting quarterback in Carr.
“He’s as tough as they come…I think the arrow is up and we’re excited about what Derek brings to the table,” Loomis said on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Carr had a tough start to his Saints career.
In addition to not making the playoffs, he had to battle through a difficult shoulder injury that he suffered back in Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers.
He played through it all year long.
Still, the four-time Pro-Bowler managed to throw 25 touchdowns and just 8 interceptions.
If it wasn’t for the shoulder injury, he would’ve thrown for over 4,000 yards.
Part of the reason for it being a difficult year too was it was his first year in a whole new city and system.
Players and coaches won’t use those for excuses, but they definitely play a role.
It also didn’t help that franchise legend Michael Thomas played in just 10 games due to injury.
Going into 2024, Carr will get to go into the offseason knowing who his receivers are and what he is working with.
If he can stay healthy, look for New Orleans to be in playoff contention this season.
Remember, led by stud edge-rusher Cam Jordan, that defense always comes to play too.
