After acquiring veteran quarterback Derek Carr last season, the New Orleans Saints had high hopes for the 2023 NFL campaign. The team aimed to capitalize on a weak NFC South division to secure a spot in the NFL playoffs.

Having spent his entire professional career with the Las Vegas Raiders, Derek Carr had a decent first season with the Saints after joining them. Carr was drafted in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft from Fresno State and has been a part of the NFL for over nine years.

With Carr showcasing his value in his debut year with the Saints, the team is expected to retain him as the starting quarterback for the upcoming 2024 NFL season. The depth chart currently lists Jake Haener as the second quarterback, followed by rookie Spencer Rattler and versatile veteran Taysom Hill.

Recent reports suggest that the quarterback depth chart is settled for the future, especially after the team released Kellen Mond this week, as reported by Field Yates of ESPN.

Although the Saints’ decision to waive Kellen Mond may not have a significant impact, the team is gearing up for their impending training camp. They will finalize their roster to the mandatory 53 players ahead of the 2024 NFL season opener.

If Derek Carr can maintain his health and performance, the Saints stand a good chance of making the playoffs next season. They will face tough competition from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons, and Carolina Panthers in the NFC South division.
