SSFC Spotlight: Sam Staab receiving opportunity under new manager

The United States Women’s National Team recently completed a successful training camp, securing two victories against Korea Republic (4-0, 3-0). These matches not only served as preparation for the upcoming Olympic Games but also allowed new players to showcase their skills at the senior level. Among these newcomers was Sam Staab, a 27-year-old defender from the Chicago Red Stars known for her durability and exceptional performance during the National Women’s Soccer League season.

Hailing from San Diego, California, Staab began her soccer career with the DMCV Sharks, winning multiple championships at the club level. She excelled in high school, leading Scripps Ranch High School to league championships and a state runners-up finish. Staab continued her impressive performance at Clemson University, earning accolades such as ACC Defensive Player of the Year and All-American honors.

After being drafted by the Washington Spirit in 2019, Staab quickly established herself as a key player in the team, showcasing her skills and contributing to their success on the field. Despite facing some challenges, including injuries, Staab’s resilience and determination have been instrumental in her development as a professional player.

In 2022, Staab joined the Chicago Red Stars and continued to impress with her consistent performance and leadership on the field. Her strong defensive abilities, passing skills, and tactical awareness make her a valuable asset to any team. Staab’s excellent form has not gone unnoticed, earning her a spot in the NWSL Best XI and consideration for Defender of the Year.

At the international level, Staab has represented the United States in various age groups, with her recent call-up to the senior team marking a significant milestone in her career. Known for her solid defensive qualities and ability to contribute to the team’s build-up play, Staab has the potential to become a key player for the USWNT in the future.

Overall, Staab’s journey from youth soccer to the professional ranks is a testament to her hard work and dedication to the sport. With her continued growth and impact on the field, she is poised to make significant contributions to both her club and country in the years to come.
