San Diego FC signs USYNT goalkeeper Duran Ferree as first player

San Diego FC’s early roster building for its inaugural MLS campaign in 2025 has officially begun.

Duran Ferree signed a four-year contract with San Diego FC through the 2027 MLS season, the club announced Wednesday. Ferree, a San Diego native, spent last season in the USL Championship with San Diego Loyal SC.

“We are excited to have Duran [Ferree] join San Diego FC as a locally developed young talent,” said Tom Penn, CEO, San Diego FC. “This signing spotlights our commitment to providing opportunities for local talent to flourish right here in San Diego. Duran’s San Diego roots, natural talent, and promise for the future make him a valuable addition to our Club.”

The 17-year-old made his pro debut in April 2022, totaling six appearances and two clean sheets in league play.

On the international level, Ferree made five appearances for the U.S. Under-17 men’s national team in 2023. He registered a 3-1-0 record in World Cup Qualifying last winter and also appeared once at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

“I’m honored to sign with my new hometown club,” said Ferree. “To be part of San Diego soccer history and play for my home city is beyond my wildest dreams. This is a testament to all the hard work I’ve put in to get here and is everything I’ve been working towards. I am eager to contribute to the growth and success of the Club, and I am excited about the journey ahead with my future teammates and the incredible fans in San Diego.”

San Diego FC cannot officially sign players to their roster until 2024, but Ferree is an exception to the rule due to being from the local area.
