Saquon Barkley Praises Former Teammate as the Top Defensive Player in the NFL

Saquon Barkley Calls Former Teammate 'Best Defensive Player In The League'

With a 3-2 record heading into Week 7, the Philadelphia Eagles have some issues.

But running back Saquon Barkley, who arrived as a free agent during the offseason, is the least of their problems, as he has run for 482 yards and four touchdowns so far.

In Week 7, the Eagles visit the New York Giants, Barkley’s former team, and he will take on the defensive unit that he used to face daily in practice.

Leading up to his return to MetLife Stadium, Barkley gave significant praise to former teammate Dexter Lawrence.

“I might be biased because of our friendship, but I think he’s the best defensive player in the league,” Barkley said, via Giants Videos.

The Giants are struggling with a 2-4 record, and it’s because of the usual culprit: quarterback Daniel Jones and their anemic offense.

Jones is clearly not the man to lift them above water, and they have failed to score 20 points in four of their six games so far.

But New York’s defense has been solid, and Lawrence has been leading the way.

The Pro Bowl defensive tackle has posted 7.0 sacks, five tackles for loss, and 11 quarterback hits through six games.

Philadelphia, on the other hand, lacks a pass rush, as Josh Sweat and Zack Baun are tied for the team lead with just 2.0 sacks apiece.

The Eagles have given up at least 385 yards of offense three times this season but allowed just 244 yards to the Cleveland Browns in a narrow Week 6 win.
