Ever since the New York Jets took him early in the first round of the NFL Draft, people have talked about Sauce Gardner and compared him to Darrelle Revis.
Of course, it’s easy to fall into that game, as Revis became a legend in New York, and pretty much every single defensive back that joins the team will always be held to that standard.
Gardner was a special talent coming out of college and didn’t need much time to make his presence felt in the pros, so it didn’t take long before they started talking about whether he would be as good or better than Revis.
Fast forward to today, and that hasn’t changed one bit.
That’s why, in his latest conversation with Chris Long for his podcast, Gardner admitted that he’s not really a fan of comparisons.
While he acknowledged that Revis is a legend of the game, he doesn’t feel like they have similar body types or games, so it doesn’t make any sense.
Moreover, as much as he wants to be the best version of himself, he knows he’s just about to enter his third year in the league, so there’s no point in comparing him with Revis after everything he accomplished throughout the course of his career.
Gardner is a special talent, and he could end up passing Revis at some point in his career, perhaps not even that far ahead in the future.
But for now, let’s keep the comparisons to a minimum.
