Scottie Scheffler candidly reflects on PGA Championship incident during ESPN interview

Scottie Scheffler gets laugh about PGA Championship arrest on ESPN

Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 golfer in the world, made his final pick on ESPN’s College GameDay, choosing the top-ranked Texas football team in the showdown against the Georgia Bulldogs. The game has been labeled by former Austin American-Statesman reporter Brian Davis as the “biggest game in Royal-Memorial Stadium history.”

During the show, Scheffler added some humor by expressing his love for the fans in a particular city. He jokingly said, “Yeah, not to bring anything person to this with Louisville, a great city, love the people. But I think Miami’s going to smoke this.”

He was referencing the incident in which he was arrested by police after a traffic misunderstanding ahead of his second round at the 2024 PGA Championship. Scheffler faced charges of Assault in the second degree of a police officer, criminal mischief in the third degree, reckless driving, and disregarding signals from officers.

All charges against the world’s No. 1-ranked golfer were later dropped. Scheffler was initially handcuffed and jailed after a Louisville police officer claimed he did not stop his vehicle when ordered to do so, resulting in the officer being injured.

Reflecting on his segment on ESPN, Scheffler said, “Like I say a lot on Tour, being No. 1 I still start even par score zero-zero, so hopefully the guys will show up ready to play tonight. But it should be fun.”
