The Denver Broncos have struggled to find Peyton Manning’s heir.

They haven’t been a true Super Bowl contender since the legendary quarterback rode into the sunset, and most of that has had to do with their struggles at the position.

Needless to say, they thought that was going to end when they made a huge trade for Russell Wilson.

They signed him to a massive contract extension before he played a single snap for the team.

In hindsight, that may have been a mistake.

Wilson has been solid but not spectacular at Mile High, and it doesn’t seem like his relationship with the franchise or his coach is in a good place right now.

Nonetheless, HC Sean Payton recently claimed that he hasn’t made up his mind about Wilson just yet, claiming that it’s going to happen in the next couple of weeks (Via Mike Garafolo).

However, the former Super Bowl-winning coach also said at the NFL Scouting Combine that he has to make sure ‘the next guy’ doesn’t have his name crossed in the Broncos’ never-ending list of starting QBs, so that was pretty telling.

Payton never seemed to want Wilson in the first place, and it makes no sense to keep him if that’s the case.

Wilson should get another opportunity to prove he’s not done in this league yet, but he should go somewhere where he’s actually appreciated, especially after everything that has transpired with his situation in Denver.
