Sergino Dest announces torn ACL diagnosis, ruled out for remainder of 2024 season

Sergino Dest reveals torn ACL diagnosis, set to miss rest of 2024

Sergino Dest’s injury has proven to be what fans, teammates, and coaches originally feared.

Dest revealed that he has suffered a torn ACL, ruling him out for the remainder of 2024. The U.S. men’s national team right back suffered the injury in mid-April with PSV and announced his diagnosis on social media Wednesday.

The 23-year-old joined PSV last fall on a season-long loan and excelled for Peter Bosz’s squad. Dest had been a regular for the Eredivisie leaders this season, scoring two goals and adding seven assists in 37 combined appearances.

He helped PSV advance out of the UEFA Champions League group stage and also claim a current nine point lead at the top of the league table. PSV can officially clinch the league title this weekend against Sparta Rotterdam.

Bosz has also previously hinted at wanting to keep Dest permanently from Barcelona at the conclusion of his loan spell.

Dest has remained a key starter for the USMNT as well following Gregg Berhalter’s return as head coach. Despite missing the CONCACAF Nations League semifinal victory over Jamaica, Dest returned in the final to help the Americans defeat Mexico 2-0 to reclaim the trophy.

However, his recent injury will now force him out of Copa America action this summer, as well as the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinals this November.
