Jerry Shang made history by becoming the second-ever Chinese man to win an ATP title, and the first to do so on home soil, at the Chengdu Open final. He defeated top seed Lorenzo Musetti 7-6(4), 6-1 in a commanding performance.

Shang faced a minor setback while trying to serve out the first set at 6-5, but he quickly recovered in the tiebreaker. He then sailed through the second set to claim the victory.

The left-hander has significantly improved his main tour record in 2024, now with 24 wins compared to just four at the start of the season. He is set to rise in the ATP rankings to at least 51st place.

During the trophy ceremony, Shang congratulated Musetti and expressed his admiration for the Italian player’s achievements. He also thanked his team, coach, and family for their support and dedication throughout the ups and downs of the tournament.

Looking ahead, Shang will continue his impressive year at the upcoming ATP 500 event in Beijing. His first-round opponent will be fellow Chinese player Bu Yunchaokete, with top seeds Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz also competing in the tournament.
