A couple of offseasons ago, the Miami Dolphins got star WR Tyreek Hill to pick them over the New York Jets.

Fast forward to today, and they’ve done the same with star pass rusher Shaquil Barrett.

Talking to Zach Gelb for CBS Sports radio, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers star admitted that he thought he was going to sign with the Jets before the Dolphins lured him to South Beach.

The former Super Bowl champion also explained that playing in Miami allows his family to stay put in Tampa instead of relocating again.

The Bucs cut Barrett earlier in the month, and he’ll now join Mike McDaniel’s team on a one-year deal.

The veteran player was a sack machine early in his tenure with the Bucs, but he got a little expensive, and not many teams want to spend big bucks on a 31-year-old pass rusher, thus they had no choice but to release him.

Barrett comes with a strong NFL pedigree, given that he’s already won Super Bowls with two different organizations.

The Dolphins are looking to get back to the big game as well, and adding Barrett could be a big step in that direction.

Needless to say, they need to win a playoff game first, and that’s going to be the strongest point of emphasis for them next season.

The AFC East Division will be significantly tougher next season, as the New York Jets will get Aaron Rodgers back along with several reinforcements, and the Buffalo Bills are always a big threat, so they need to add more firepower to their defense.
