Simon Carr Announces Retirement from Professional Tennis

Simon Carr calls time on Professional Tennis Career

Irish Davis Cup star Simon Carr, aged 24, has officially announced his retirement from professional tennis.

Carr, who made his debut for Ireland in 2018, has had a successful career representing his country. However, he has recently been plagued by injuries, which led to his decision to retire. Although he was part of the team that played against Austria in the Davis Cup match in Limerick, he did not participate in any of the rubbers.

Starting his professional career at the young age of 15 in 2015, Carr achieved an impressive 9/5 singles win-loss ratio and an overall 12/8 record in Davis Cup matches, helping Ireland secure promotion to the World Group II playoffs in 2022.

During his time on the pro circuit, Simon claimed one singles title and four doubles titles, with his most recent victory in January 2024. His career-high ranking of 512 was achieved in 2020. Additionally, he made a mark in junior competitions by competing in all four Grand Slam events in 2017 and reaching a ranking high of 42.

Following the news of his retirement, Tennis Ireland’s CEO Kevin Quinn expressed gratitude for Carr’s contributions to Irish Tennis, praising his determination and representation of the country on the world stage. Quinn wished him the best for his future endeavors and hoped that tennis would continue to be a part of his life.

In a statement announcing his retirement, Simon Carr thanked everyone in Irish tennis who had supported him throughout his career, describing it as a fun journey that gave him unforgettable memories. He also acknowledged the unwavering support of his family, without whom his achievements would not have been possible.
