It will be Jannik Sinner vs. Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open semifinals on Friday. Neither man had any trouble playing his part in setting up the highly anticipated showdown. Sinner defeated Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-4, 7-6(3) in the first quarterfinal match, while Alcaraz continued his dominance over Stefanos Tsitsipas with a 6-3, 7-6(3), 6-4 victory in the second match.

Sinner also secured the world No. 1 ranking for the first time in his career next week, as Novak Djokovic had to withdraw from the tournament due to a knee injury.

“I am very happy,” said Sinner. “My performance was very solid in the first two sets. I am happy with how I played and to be in the semifinals.”

Alcaraz improved to 6-0 lifetime against Tsitsipas, including winning their quarterfinal match at Roland Garros last year. He has won nine consecutive sets against Tsitsipas. The head-to-head series between Alcaraz and Sinner is tied at 4-4 on the main tour.

“It’s a really difficult challenge,” said Alcaraz. “I’m ready to take on the challenge and put on a show on this beautiful court. Let’s see who will come out on top.”
