Sinner Confesses to Prioritizing Fitness Over Match Readiness in Madrid

Jannik Sinner has been putting in extra work in the gym to gear up for a challenging summer period, opting for increased physical training over match readiness at the 2024 Madrid Open.

Despite not having a bulky physique, Sinner has been focusing on building strength to reduce the risk of injuries, which he has struggled with in the past.

Sinner’s dedication to his gym routine has shown results, with his physical transformation potentially contributing to his recent success in the sport.

According to reports, Sinner is currently regarded as one of the top tennis players worldwide, having lost only two matches in 2024.

In a recent interview with Prakash Amritraj of the Tennis Channel, Sinner mentioned that he continues his gym sessions even during tournaments like the ongoing Madrid Open.

“Very intense. We’ve done a lot of gym work. We are focused on preparing for Roland Garros, which is the main event. I’m thrilled to be playing here. I didn’t participate last year, so it’s even more exciting. We put in a lot of gym work, even after matches.”

The increased gym routine has visibly affected Sinner’s stamina during matches at the ATP Masters 1000 event, but it showcases his commitment to preparation.

His primary goal is to be fully prepared for the upcoming Roland Garros, anticipating grueling matches that demand peak physical condition. The summer ahead looks busy with the Olympics and the necessary training.

“I might feel a bit more fatigued during matches. It’s part of the process, and I’m mentally prepared for what’s to come.”
