Sinner Confirmed As First Entrant For 2024 Marseille Open

Jannik Sinner will be present at the 2024 Open 13 Provence, also known as Marseille Open, the tournament has confirmed on its official website.

The 2024 Marseille Open will run from February 5 to 11, featuring 28-player singles. Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz is the reigning champion after beating France’s Benjamin Bonzi in the 31st edition of the tournament in 2023.

Sinner has played at the ATP 250 event in the port city in southern France two times. His most recent trip was in March 2021 where he lost in the quarterfinal stage to eventual champion Daniil Medvedev. That remains his best achievement in the tournament.

The 22-year-old was expected to headline the Marseille Open this year but withdrew at the very last minute due to illness. Sinner had played non-stop tennis in February coming to Marseille, having reached back-to-back finals in Montpellier and Rotterdam.

It was a big blow for the tournament organizers to lose one of their prized assets in the draw. But if anything, it only served to extend Arthur Fils’ electric start to life on the ATP Tour. The young Frenchman was scheduled to face Sinner in the round of 16 before he pulled out, and went on to make the semis.

And now the Italian is looking to make up for his 2023 no-show by pledging to play in the 32nd edition of the Marseille Open in his third trip. Sinner will likely arrive at his current best ranking of World No. 4 after a stellar season yielded four ATP titles.

He won all four trophies on hard courts (a couple indoors) including his first Masters 1000 in Canada. Sinner successfully qualified for the ATP Finals for the first time and reached the championship match where he lost to World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

Sinner will aim to continue his similar rich vein of form at the start of next season where he will be among the favorites to win the Australian Open in Melbourne Park.
