Jannik Sinner is playing at an unbelievable level at the moment, and he’s just bulldozing his way through the 2024 Miami Open.
Prior to the Indian Wells Open, there probably wouldn’t be a single person that wouldn’t name the young Italian as the top favourite for the event, as he entered the season’s first ATP Masters 1000 tournament undefeated.
That changed in Indian Wells, as his rival Carlos Alcaraz managed to outplay him, and right now, it’s quite difficult to say who is the favourite in Miami, as both are playing at an incredible level, dispatching one opponent after another.
Sinner had some problems against Tallon Griekspoor, but other than that, he has been dominant, and the same applied in his quarter-final match against Tomas Machac, who bested the likes of Andrey Rublev and Andy Murray on his way to the last eight in Miami.
The Czech player even had a solid start into the match against the second seed, as he managed to break him after losing his serve in the opening game, and keep up with the pace for a few games.
However, when the Australian Open champion broke his serve in the seventh game, Machac wasn’t able to find another response, as the Italian controlled the remainder of the first set to win it 6-4.
The second set, unfortunately for the Czech player, was much more straightforward. Sinner unleashed his full power, especially on the return, having two break points on each of his opponent’s first three service games.
He used it on two occasions, and two-break advantage is something that Sinner just can’t lose when he’s playing this well, and he didn’t, winning the match 6-4, 6-2 to reach his third Miami Open semi-final.
On both occasions he made it to the last four before, he also reached the final, but he’s yet to win the title in Miami.
