Sinner Voted As 2023 ATP Fans’ Favorite Singles Player, Outshines Djokovic & Alcaraz

Sinner Voted As 2023 ATP Fans’ Favorite Singles Player, Outshines Djokovic & Alcaraz

Jannik Sinner is the 2023 ATP Fans’ Favorite Singles player after garnering a higher vote count than the Top 25 singles players in contention for the prize.

The fan-voted ATP award follows Sinner’s career-best season in which he attained a career-best ranking of World No. 4 (joint-highest of an Italian man) and was an integral member in Italy’s Davis Cup win in Malaga – the country’s first title at the oldest tennis team competition in 47 years.

After plenty of heartbreaks and near-misses, Sinner finally bagged his first Masters 1000 title last season at the Canadian Open. Among some firsts, he reached a maiden Grand Slam semifinal at Wimbledon, and after a long-awaited win over Daniil Medvedev, he defeated him twice in the ATP 500 finals.

Sinner became a national hero at the Davis Cup last month, where he snapped Novak Djokovic’s 12-year winning streak in the competition when he defeated him in a singles rubber in the semifinal, saving three successive match points en route to the upset. A day later, he completed Italy’s first title in the competition since 1976, beating Australia.

The ATP Fans’ Favorite has existed since 2000, but no player has dominated the charts like Roger Federer, who won the award 19 times between 2003 and 2021. His run ended following his retirement from professional tennis in 2022.

Rafael Nadal scooped the award last year. However, the Spaniard did not play for over 90% of last season, leaving Sinner directly competing with Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Daniil Medvedev as the heavy favorites. Sinner topped them all, becoming the first Italian man to win this special award.

“What a season! Some amazing accomplishments that I will remember forever. Thank you to my team for everything. Already looking forward to 2024.”
