Coming into Sunday’s slate of games for Week 1 of the NFL, the Chicago Bears had more attention on them than they’ve had in recent memory due to the storied franchise selecting USC superstar quarterback Caleb Williams at No. 1 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Williams received a lot of hype during the offseason as many believed he could quickly turn into an NFL superstar while being the starter right out of the gate for the Bears.
That said, the Week 1 matchup with the Tennessee Titans was a game that many wouldn’t usually tune into but likely did to catch a glimpse of this rookie quarterback who has been the talk of the NFL for months.
Unfortunately for the Bears and their avid fan base, Williams failed to live up to expectations in his NFL debut, as he couldn’t even crack 100 yards passing, finishing with 93 while only completing 14 passes of the 29 he threw on Sunday against the Titans.
Despite Williams’ forgettable debut for the Bears, Chicago stepped up in other areas, namely on defense and special teams, to win over Tennessee.
After the game, Skip Bayless to his X account to talk about Williams’s first game on the professional level.
“Kid is going to be good,” Bayless said.
BEAR DOWN, CHICAGO BEARS! It wasn’t always pretty for Caleb, who often played like a Game 1 rookie. But he did what it took to win, coming from 17-0 down to pull it out 24-17. Kid is going to be GOOD.

Obviously, this is not what the Bears or their fans want to see from a quarterback that has been hyped to ridiculous levels at this point.
However, it is only Week 1, and there were bound to be some mistakes made and an adjustment to playing in the NFL, so there’s still a lot of time to turn things around and improve.
