Sky Sports analyst Jamie Redknapp has ignited tension in the Premier League transfer arena.
The former midfielder reported that Liverpool is making a late effort to acquire Antoine Semenyo, even as it seems the Bournemouth forward is on the brink of signing with Manchester City.
Semenyo has been linked with a transfer to the Etihad for several weeks, with emerging reports indicating that City has made notable advancements in negotiations with both Bournemouth and the player.
Various sources suggest that Semenyo has conveyed his wish to join Manchester City, largely motivated by the opportunity to develop under Pep Guardiola, a manager noted for enhancing the skills of attacking players.
Given the strong indicators pointing towards a transfer to Manchester, Redknapp’s recent comments have introduced an unexpected plot twist.
Liverpool’s Hopes Remain Alive for Semenyo
While appearing on Sky Sports, Redknapp surmised that Manchester City’s pursuit of Semenyo may not be as clear-cut as anticipated, suggesting Liverpool might still be contenders for the forward’s signature.
Redknapp remarked, “I’m not completely convinced. I’ve heard there may be a twist. Liverpool could still be in the conversation.”
“Honestly, I would have expected them to make a more substantial offer. Given the uncertainty over Mohamed Salah’s future at the club, it raises questions. A player of Semenyo’s caliber can be a game-changer in critical moments.”
“It’s not a definitive moment breaking news-wise, but there have been whispers tonight that a medical at Man City is not a certainty.”
“There may still be some unexpected developments, and I certainly hope so.”
