Sky Sports Journalist Reveals Latest on Leon Goretzka's Potential Move to Tottenhamn

Leon Goretzka Linked to Tottenham Ahead of January Transfer Window

Leon Goretzka, the Bayern Munich midfielder, has been the subject of rumors regarding a potential move to Tottenham in the lead-up to the January transfer window.

Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu reported over the weekend that, while Fenerbahce is still interested in Goretzka, it is Tottenham who have made contact with the player’s agent regarding a possible transfer.

He indicated that any deal would hinge on Bayern Munich’s readiness to allow Goretzka to depart.

Speculation has evolved, prompting Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg to share insights about the current scenario.

Sky Sports Update on Goretzka’s Potential Move

Plettenberg has clarified that Tottenham is not actively pursuing a transfer for Goretzka this January.

According to the German journalist, there are presently no signs that the midfielder will leave Bayern during the winter transfer window.

On social media platform X, he stated: “Understand that, contrary to other claims, Tottenham are not working on bringing Leon Goretzka in this January. This has been explicitly denied.”

He added, “Currently, there are no indications that Goretzka will exit FC Bayern in January. His contract runs out in the summer. Vincent Kompany holds him in high regard and values his contributions significantly.”

This update is noteworthy as Kompany reportedly holds Goretzka in high esteem, emphasizing the value of his performances.

However, Goretzka’s role this season has been more rotational compared to previous years. He has not made any starts in the Champions League but has been a significant presence in the Bundesliga, starting 12 of Bayern’s 15 league matches to date.

With Goretzka’s contract expiring in the summer, Bayern may soon face a critical choice: either risk losing him on a free transfer or opt to sell him beforehand.

Goretzka’s Bayern Munich Stats

Goretzka joined Bayern Munich from Schalke in 2018 on a free transfer and has since appeared in 287 matches for the club across all competitions.

In those appearances, he has netted 46 goals and provided 48 assists.

His versatility stands out, as he can excel in various roles but has been most effective as a central midfielder, contributing 43 goals and 40 assists throughout his career.

Goretzka has also played as a defensive midfielder, adding 11 goals and 18 assists in 79 appearances, proving his ability to influence matches from a deeper position.

His impressive performances have previously attracted interest from clubs such as Manchester United.

Despite Plettenberg’s refutations of the rumors, the possibility of a January transfer cannot be entirely dismissed due to his contract situation.
