Sofyan Amrabat enjoys living in Manchester and wants to move permanently to Old Trafford from Fiorentina.
One month ago the case of Amrabat seemed cut and dry. The Moroccan had failed to make any sort of impact at the club and it was reported by numerous sources that both the player and the club were willing to part ways with each other.
It was said that Amrabat wanted to return to Italy and Serie A, where he has played the best football of his career with the exception of the World Cup in 2022 with Morocco.
Erik ten Hag, who brought the midfielder in on loan at the end of the summer window, was also regarded as a dead man walking, reducing the probability of Amrabat staying in Manchester.
However, a defensive injury crisis in May led to Casemiro starting most games at centre back and Amrabat coming into the team to fill the defensive midfield void alongside Kobbie Mainoo.
The Moroccan gave a good account of himself and was particularly impressive in the cup final against Manchester City when United emerged 2-1 victors.
Amrabat was widely praised for his tactical discipline and work ethic to help his side limit the damage a dangerous City midfield could inflict.
The cup win has made the picture at Old Trafford a whole lot foggier, as whilst there is still a good chance the current coach will be sacked, there is a growing belief he could stay as key figures are reportedly lobbying that he should remain in his position.
In addition, Amrabat gave an interview after the cup final claiming that he doesn’t know where his future will lie but did quite clearly state that he would love to stay at Old Trafford and talks are planned with the club.
The player has been linked to a plethora of Italian and English clubs, most recently Lazio, but reliable journalist, Andy Mitten, states that Amrabat is keen to stay exactly where he is beyond the summer.
Writing in The National News, he claimed that “he (Amrabat) would like to stay at United, especially having shown the fans the player he can be in the last month of the season…He likes living in Hale, South Manchester, too, and feels that the group of players is a good one without the edge he experienced at other clubs.”
The option to buy included in Amrabat’s loan deal is €20 million, giving United until the end of this month to make a decision on his future.
