The 2024 U.S. Open Cup field is set.
Seattle Sounders vs. LAFC and Sporting KC vs. Indy Eleven will be the two semifinal matchups this August, after this week’s quarterfinal slate concluded Wednesday. Both Seattle and Sporting KC have previously won the competition while LAFC and Indy Eleven will be seeking their first Open Cup titles.
LAFC brushed aside New Mexico United 3-1 at Banc of California Stadium on Wednesday night. Timothy Tillman and David Martinez both goals in the first half before Greg Hurst pulled one goal back for the USL visitors.
Mateusz Bogusz iced the result with 13 minutes to play, propelling Steve Cherundolo’s squad into the final four.
Sporting KC needed extra time to eliminate FC Dallas 2-1 at Children’s Mercy Park. William Agada and Petar Musa traded goals in the second half before Daniel Rosero delivered the eventual winning goal in the 111st minute.
Both the Sounders and Indy Eleven won on the road in Tuesday’s pair of matches.
First-half tallies from Josh Atencio and Jordan Morris gave the Sounders a two-goal advantage at the break. Despite Juan Herrera’s finish in the 49th minute, Seattle held on for a 2-1 victory.
Augustine Williams’ first-half goal paired with Dax McCarty’s own goal seven minutes from time helped Indy Eleven upset Atlanta United 2-1 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Nicolas Firmino pulled a consolation goal back in second-half stoppage time, but the USL visitors would hang on.
The U.S. Open Cup semifinal round will take place between August 27-28 with the Sounders and Sporting KC hosting from their home venues.
