SS Lazio are growing impatient with Manchester United and Mason Greenwood’s delay in responding to their offer for the player.
Manchester United is eager to part ways with the talented forward who sparked controversy at Old Trafford after being arrested for violent and abusive behavior in January 2022.
Last season, Lazio attempted to loan him, but the deal fell through, leading Greenwood to Getafe in Spain, where he was named Player of the Season.
Now, Lazio is pursuing a permanent deal, offering €22 million plus 50% of a future sale, with potential to increase the bid to €25 million.
However, their offer falls short of the reported €30 million that was accepted by Olympique de Marseille. Public resistance, particularly from Marseille’s mayor, has delayed this transfer.
Enter SSC Napoli, who have now expressed interest in Greenwood, offering €30 million with a less attractive sell-on clause than Lazio. Roma is also reportedly in the mix.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Lazio’s president Claudio Lotito is growing frustrated with the lack of decision from Greenwood and his camp and is considering other options.
The situation is characterized by uncertainty and last-minute developments, with Napoli entering the fray and a sense of urgency building up for Greenwood and Manchester United.
While Lazio had previously hinted at considering other options over Greenwood, recent developments suggest they are still open to his acquisition but need a decisive answer from the player soon.
If Greenwood chooses not to join Lazio, they have alternative options in mind, one of which is former United player Anthony Martial. More details on this possibility can be found here.
