Public figures, such as NFL players, have to be very careful with what they say, and that also applies to their significant others.
You don’t want to give the media, the fans, or opposing players anything to work with, particularly if it’s not exactly flattering.
That’s why Matthew Stafford’s wife, Kelly, is under a lot of heavy fire right now.
Recently, during an interview, Kelly revealed that she used to date Stafford’s backup at Georgia to make him jealous.
Those comments didn’t sit well with some people, and they prompted mockery among others.
With that in mind, ESPN pundit Stephen A. Smith called her out, asking what was going through her mind when she made those comments.
Kelly Stafford, what are you doing?! pic.com/765JiQT6Y4

Smith claimed that he didn’t mean to disrespect her and that she seemed like a good lady, but he didn’t understand her motivation or what advantage she could possibly get from telling that story.
Truth be told, it’s not for anybody else to judge another person’s relationship, and it’s not like she wasn’t entitled to have her own dating history prior to her relationship with Stafford; it’s not an ego thing or a macho thing at all.
Nonetheless, as much as we can all agree to that, she’s not exactly doing her husband any favors.
You don’t want to give other players ammunition for when they’re out there in the trenches, and perhaps this story would’ve been better suited for the time his playing days were over, as trash-talking could get really serious now.
