It seems like a Warriors trade including Andrew Wiggins is only a matter time with the trade deadline looming, but Steve Kerr thinks otherwise.
“I think he’s playing well,” Kerr said after practice at Chase Center on Thursday. “I’m very hopeful, and I expect him to be here when the trade deadline passes. He’s been a big part of our team now for years, helped us win a title year and a half ago, still has a lot of career ahead of him.”
Wiggins was producing season-lows through the first part of the season, which forced Kerr to take him out of the starting lineup.
But through his last five games, has averaged 18.0 points on 61.1 percent shooting and has been back in the starting lineup for the last seven contests.
Wiggins, along with Chris Paul, has been one of the names repeated brought up by insiders, as it seems the teams veterans like Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson seem largely off limits.
But Kerr tries to keep it real with his players.
“We try to recognize if guys are stressed out about it if their names are really being talked about,” Kerr said. “I’m always very, very honest with the players. I’ve had players over the years who I just share, very frankly, with them there is a chance that you’re going to get moved. It may or may not happen, but this is why.”
