Steve Kerr presents Andrew Wiggins with a major challenge

Wiggins

Andrew Wiggins had the worst season of his career last year, but the Warriors say he’s primed for a bounce-back season in 2024-25.

Wiggins was traded to the Warriors from the Timberwolves at the 2020 deadline, a move that turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to him.

He dispelled the narrative that he was a No. 1 draft pick bust and emerged as an All-Star in 2022, playing a crucial role in Golden State’s championship run.

Despite a forgettable season last year, the Warriors are placing their trust in Wiggins as the team’s second-best scorer behind Steph Curry.

Head coach Steve Kerr mentioned, “I think there’s also a void that is left by Klay’s absence that we need to fill. That’s a lot of points to score. But it also means we have to rethink how we’re doing things, and Wiggs will be featured for sure. He’s proven he’s a 20-point-a-night guy, and we’re going to rely on him heavily.”

Despite his recent personal loss, Kerr believes Wiggins is focused and prepared for a comeback season.

“He looks physically fit,” Kerr noted. “I think he also sounds very motivated. He seems at peace and ready to get back to where he was a couple of years ago. He’s in his physical prime and has shown us what he’s capable of. With his help, we won a championship. I anticipate a big year from Wiggs.”

There is a positive vibe in The Bay regarding the upcoming season, with second-year guard Brandin Podziemski also expressing optimism about the fresh energy among the team.

Podziemski shared, “I feel like we are young and youthful. With our new additions – De’Anthony Melton, Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson, and our draft pick Quinten Post – it feels like a new beginning. Without Klay Thompson and Chris Paul, things will be different, but we are full of energy and eager to see where we can go.”
