John Carew Shares Insight on Prince William’s Influence in His Aston Villa Transfer

The striker recounted his meeting with Prince William while attending a dinner hosted by the royal family in Norway, revealing that the Aston Villa supporter encouraged him to sign with the club. This move proved beneficial for Villa as Carew became a key contributor to their success.
Carew Reflects on His Time at Aston Villa
In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Carew stated: “We met in Norway during a dinner with the royal family. Our conversation revolved around football, and soon after, he invited me to England to see an Aston Villa match, his team. He persuaded me to make the move in 2007, and I scored in double figures in the Premier League for three straight seasons. He was a great admirer. In 2019, we watched the play-off final against Derby County together at Wembley, which marked our return to the Premier League.”
Carew’s Impact and Legacy

John Carew quickly established himself in the Premier League, leaving a lasting impression among Aston Villa supporters. Following his time at Villa, he also played for Stoke City and West Ham United, consistently demonstrating his reliability on the field.
In total, Carew earned 91 caps for the Norwegian national team, scoring 24 goals throughout his international career.
