Sutton’s Prediction for West Ham vs Chelsea Match Scoreline

Chelsea New Coach Enzo Maresca

Former Celtic star Chris Sutton is uncertain about the upcoming game between West Ham United and Chelsea due to the inconsistency of both teams. As a result, Sutton has predicted that the London teams will ultimately settle for a 1-1 draw.

Both West Ham and Chelsea are seeking a fresh start this season. West Ham, who finished ninth in the Premier League last season, have acquired four points from their first four games and currently sit in 14th place. Chelsea, who placed fifth last term, are currently in eighth place with seven points after four matches.

Chris Sutton Predicts a Draw between West Ham United and Chelsea

In his BBC column, Sutton shared his thoughts on the upcoming clash between the local rivals on September 21:

West Ham reportedly replaced David Moyes in search of a more attacking style of play, but then appointed Julen Lopetegui, whose approach is similar to Moyes’. Despite spending significant funds in the summer, around £130m on new players, it remains to be seen if they will improve on last season’s ninth-place finish under Moyes. I have my doubts.”

He continued:

This match is a tough one to predict as both West Ham and Chelsea have not been in top form. Chelsea especially struggled in their recent win over Bournemouth. Frankly, it’s hard to say how this match will transpire, so a draw seems like a safe prediction.”

Sutton’s prediction: 1-1

According to Sportsmole, West Ham United and Chelsea have faced each other 122 times across all competitions. Chelsea holds the advantage in the head-to-head record, with 55 wins compared to West Ham’s 44. The two sides have also played out 23 draws.
