Iga Swiatek made history by defeating Jasmine Paolini in straight sets to secure her third consecutive victory at Roland Garros.
Despite a challenging match against Naomi Osaka where she saved match points, Swiatek dominated most of her matches, clinching victories in straight sets, a trend that continued in the final encounter.
Paolini put up a solid effort, but it was widely expected that she wouldn’t surpass the world no. 1, given Swiatek’s exceptional performance leading up to the match. Although the Italian had a strong start, nearly breaking in the initial game and then succeeding in the second, she was unable to maintain her momentum.
Swiatek swiftly retaliated with a break and showcased her impressive skills on the court, overwhelming Paolini with powerful shots and precise serves.
The top seed claimed the first set 6-2, and continued her dominance by breaking early in the second set, securing a 6-1 victory and solidifying her place as the best player in the world.
Swiatek’s performance marked a historic third consecutive win at Roland Garros, placing her alongside Monica Seles and Justine Henin as the only female players to achieve this feat.
