Swiatek faces challenging Wimbledon draw

World No.1 and top seed Iga Swiatek has been handed a tricky draw at Wimbledon.

The five-time major champion, who has not played a match since winning Roland-Garros, will face former Grand Slam champion and Roland-Garros finalist Sofia Kenin in the first round.

The Pole, who reached a career best quarterfinal last year at the All England Club, could face former Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber or Katerina Siniakova in the third round and – if the seeds hold – is slated to face Jelena Ostapenko in the round of 16.

Swiatek owns a career record of 9-4 at Wimbledon.

Also lurking in the 23-year-old’s half of the draw is 2022 champion Elena Rybakina, while Aryna Sabalenka, the No.3 seed, has been drawn into second-seeded Coco Gauff’s half of the draw.

Rybakina will face Romania’s Elena Gabriela Ruse in the first round; Sabalenka will face American Emina Bektas.
