Swiatek Focused on Olympics But Evert Believes She Can Still Triumph at Wimbledon

Former WTA player Chris Evert made a bold prediction about Iga Swiatek and the upcoming Wimbledon Championships, suggesting that she could emerge victorious.

While Swiatek is considered a strong contender in most events, she isn’t typically seen as a favorite for Wimbledon. Despite her skills, her performance on grass courts has been questioned, and there are other players who are seen as better suited for this surface.

However, there are those, like Mats Wilander and Chris Evert, who believe in Swiatek’s potential to win Wimbledon. Evert recently shared her thoughts with ESPN, expressing her belief in Swiatek’s ability to succeed at the prestigious tournament.

“I don’t know. I wonder where her head is right now as far as Wimbledon. It certainly is the most challenging of all the majors because of several things. Her sweet spot again is shoulder high where she hits her winners. She doesn’t win a lot of free points with her serve, and that is going to hurt her as well. She’s the fastest player out there.”

Despite the challenges presented by grass courts, such as the bounce and lack of sliding like on clay, Swiatek’s mental strength could be her key to success. Evert believes that Swiatek’s mental toughness could set her apart from the competition.

Dismissing Swiatek simply because grass isn’t her preferred surface would be a mistake, according to Evert. She is confident in Swiatek’s ability to perform well at Wimbledon.

“There’s nobody stronger than her mentally. There’s nobody stronger than her mentally. She has a great return of serve. I think she can win Wimbledon. I think she can. People who count her out this year are silly. I think she can win Wimbledon.”
